paint.net

I’ve been hearing about paint.net for a few years, but I’ve never gotten around to trying it out until tonight.

It started out, I had two images and wanted one to overlay over the other.  Sounds simple enough, but as it turns out, this was far beyond the capabilities of Windows’ Paint.  Sure, I could paste an image into another, but the image was jagged, and put politely, looked like crap.

So I’m thinking I need a easy to use, preferably free (or at least free trial) image editing problem.  Lots out there.   paint.net came to mind, so I downloadeda trial and fired ‘er up.

Wow.  Seriously, wow.  Okay, so it’s not Photoshop.  But it’s also not $649, so that works out well enough.

Photoshop is, frankly, overwhelming to me. I’m graphically untalented, I’m not even familiar with the terminology or what the various icons do, but paint.net was oddly intuitive, the help was actually useful for a couple shortcut keys.

Within 15 minutes I was doing some basic editing, and within half an hour, just a bit of a cleanup and suddenly one of my images looked exactly how I envisioned it in my mind before I started, that’s a first for me.

So, thanks paint.net!

Betta Testing

I decided to get a fish tank for my office… No fantastic photos of the tank yet, but I did get a few of my betta, so that’s better then nothing.

Still working on cleaning up my office, one of these days I’ll get some photos of the new setup…

Office Space

Back on Thanksmericangiving I had planned to take my office apart for a huge cleanup. Unfortunately one of my web servers started acting up, so instead I spent the weekend playing rebuild the webserver. On the plus side the new box is a dual core AMD and it just purrs.

So this weekend I took another stab at it, with somewhat more success, at least I managed to make a huge mess, which is the start to any cleaning attempt.

Tomorrow it’s back to work work work, but if the customers are kind maybe I’ll get it finisheder. Stay tuned for before and after photos, if there ends up being an after.
