How do I know? Well for one, I’m fighting a cold, and so far losing the battle.

I went for a walk to the post office today to ship another package and on the way it was so windy that the leaves and other stuff were hitting me in the head hard enough that it hurt. Weird. On the plus side the sky was stunningly beautiful, and the trees are bright autumn colours so it’s not all that bad.

On the plus side although it has been windy and rainy, no snow just yet, although the forecast does have the f-word on Friday…

Eating out https://www.thedave.ca/randomjibberish/eating-out/ https://www.thedave.ca/randomjibberish/eating-out/#respond Tue, 19 Aug 2008 23:02:49 +0000 http://www.thedave.ca/?p=233 Continue reading ]]> Everyone has a vice, or three. One of mine is eating out.

It’s a combination of laziness, and gluttony. Or it just tastes good.

With Lori out of town, I decided to try and cut back for a couple reasons, financial and health being the top two.

I think I’m doing alright so far. Lori left Saturday evening, so I decided to order pizza since Lori was technically still in town as long as my food arrived before takeoff.

After that, no more eating out.

Sunday I was invited to my parents’ place for dinner, so that doesn’t count.

Monday for lunch, I needed my dad’s help, so I took him out for lunch as a thank-you. So that doesn’t count.

Monday for dinner I had leftovers from lunch, so that one doesn’t count either.

So like I said, not doing too bad.

As I write this, I’m actually cooking food though, off the wagon already. šŸ™

White shoes https://www.thedave.ca/randomjibberish/white-shoes/ https://www.thedave.ca/randomjibberish/white-shoes/#respond Fri, 15 Aug 2008 10:51:31 +0000 http://www.thedave.ca/?p=204 Continue reading ]]> I’ve been on the hunt for new shoes for a while, probably over a year. See, I have funny shaped feet. I’m a size 12.5 wide or double-wide, with a flat instep and a relatively thick foot. Aren’t you glad you asked?

Anyway, my doctor is on vacation this month, I was waiting at a clinic and had time to kill so I went wandering, ended up at a shoe store and found what might be the most comfortable pair of runners I’ve ever owned. Alas, they only come in white. I feel… dirty… wearing white shoes.

They say shoes make the man, so what does this say about me? Oh well, what can you do, at least they’re comfortable.

How to tell if food is healthy to eat? https://www.thedave.ca/randomjibberish/how-to-tell-if-food-is-healthy-to-eat/ https://www.thedave.ca/randomjibberish/how-to-tell-if-food-is-healthy-to-eat/#respond Sun, 02 Mar 2008 15:33:52 +0000 http://www.thedave.ca/wordpress/index.php/2008/03/02/how-to-tell-if-food-is-healthy-to-eat/ Continue reading ]]> I’m not sure if I’ve entirely thought this one though, but I think the way to figure out if you should eat something or not is actually printed right on the side of the packaging.Ā  My suggestion is two easy rules:

1) Can you pronounce each of the ingredients?

2) Can you draw each of the ingredients?

If the answer to either is no, then perhaps it’s not the best choice.

Thoughts?

yay pepto bismol https://www.thedave.ca/randomjibberish/yay-pepto-bismol/ https://www.thedave.ca/randomjibberish/yay-pepto-bismol/#respond Sun, 03 Feb 2008 04:14:45 +0000 http://www.thedave.ca/wordpress/index.php/2008/02/02/yay-pepto-bismol/ Continue reading ]]> So apparently stomach flu is contagious over IM, I just finished getting over one of the less pleasant episodes of stomach flu that I’ve ever experienced, and now a good friend down in Colorado’s children are sick.Ā  Sorry ’bout that Randy, remind me I owe y’all a round of fries from Red Robins next time we’re out in Texas, k?

Pepto Bismol chewable tablets worked well, although I did notice something interesting while reading the ingredients for this “heartburnĀ ā€¢Ā indigestionĀ ā€¢Ā upset stomachĀ ā€¢Ā nauseaĀ ā€¢Ā diarrhea” medication. One of the non-medical ingredients is a laxative. Weird.

All well, back to my normal self, even had a couple rounds of wonton soup.Ā  My precious!Ā  And extra special thanks to Mah Lori for taking such good care of me!

Cinnamon Buns https://www.thedave.ca/randomjibberish/cinnamon-buns/ https://www.thedave.ca/randomjibberish/cinnamon-buns/#respond Fri, 02 Nov 2007 05:15:43 +0000 http://www.thedave.ca/wordpress/?p=6 Continue reading ]]> Welp, it’s that time again. Summer is over, no more camping, no more sweltering in my 30C office because I’m too cheap to buy an air conditioner, no more wearing my favourite cargo shorts, no more quick runs to pick up a pizza without grabbing a jacket, no more iced cappuccinos (not that I’d let a little cold weather stop me, normally. Heck, we’ve already had snow this year. SNOW. Who does that?

It’s also time to get back on the low carb deal. Low carb seems to work reasonably well for me when I’m at home, but when I’m traveling, camping, or otherwise too busy to cook, I don’t find myself caring enough to stick with it. With summer over, I’m more likely to be at home a lot more, and with temperatures falling, standing in front of a hot stove isn’t as painful an experience as it is during the summer.

So we’ll see how it goes.

In the mean time, we ate most of the “bad” food in the house, just one thing to go… Cinnamon Buns! And they were delicious!

My goal is to go as close to zero sugar carbs as possible, stay under ~25-30 grams of carbs daily. And for what it’s worth, my experience has been that net total carbs is a complete waste of time, if you’re going to do low-carb then do it, don’t play math games with fibre.

I’m also going to work on getting caffeine out of my system entirely, so on that note, I’ll close by sharing a comic from one of my favourite cartoonists.
